November 1994: Changing the Quality of Schools

November 1994: Changing the Quality of Schools

Question: What steps can be taken for productive change in schools.

Answer:
.Begin to build unity of purpose by bringing everyone together.
.Empower participants to find strengths and challenges in the school..
.Build on the strengths and ideas of people at school.
.Develop a sense of “here”—baseline data.
.Get everyone—staff, students, parents involved.
.Imagine what kind of school you would want for your child.
.Realize that you can’t work on everything at once.
.Set out three to five areas that will be the focus.

Comment: Seems to be a commonsense way to start. Of course, the devil will be in the details. That’s were leadership comes in. RayS.
